COD Men's Golf rolls into third event on calendar at Soboba Springs

COD Men's Golf sophomore Nicolas Beeken (Liège, Belgium) took the top spot for the Roadrunners as Desert wrapped up the non-Conference schedule at the par-72 The Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto.

Not only did all five Pacific Coast Athletic Conference schools participate in this tournament, but so did six Orange Empire Conference schools and four Western State Conference schools. The tournament was won by Riverside City College with a score of 367.

Beeken had another impressive outing as he not only won grabbed the top spot for Desert at the tournament, but shot a one over 73, leaving him tied for 4th place with five other golfers and building momentum going into the beginning of the PCAC season at Torey Pines.

The Roadrunners collected a strong sixth place finish with a score of 383, one stroke ahead of Saddleback College and only two strokes back of PCAC rival and tournament host, Mt. San Jacinto College. Freshman Gauthier Adams (Liège, Belgium) shot an impressive 76, finishing 7th and tied with 10 other golfers at four over.

Freshman Matt Schmitt (Brawley H.S.) shot a 77 and freshman Sam Berglund (Melbourne, Australia) was right behind, shooting a 78. Shooting a 79 was Freshman Vinny Vetrano (La Quinta H.S.) and Freshman Carl Hansson (Rättvik, Sweden) shot an 85 to wrap up the afternoon for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla on Wednesday, February 22 as they begin Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play at a neutral location.
