COD Women’s Basketball falls to the Warriors, 67-37

COD (2-11) put together a well-played first quarter, but the Torrance El Camino Warriors (6-5) went on a 13-0 run to start the second quarter, putting the game out of reach for the home side as the Roadrunners fell, 67-37.

The Roadrunners had a hard time from the floor in the second quarter, going 1 for 9 from the field, but their defense held up against the Warriors onslaught, as El Camino were forced into missing 17 shots. At the halftime break, the Warriors had a 35-19 lead.

Desert improved significantly in the third quarter, but so did El Camino, both teams shooting percentages skyrocketed as the Roadrunners went 5 for 16 (31.3%) and the Warriors went 8 for 16 (50%), ending the quarter with a 54-30 lead for the visitors.

Unfortunately, the fourth quarter was not very kind to the Roadrunners as they shot 1 for 10 from the field, the made basket was a three-pointer, they were very productive from the free throw line, going 4 for 7 in the quarter.

Leading the team on the night was sophomore starting forward Lexie Jackson (La Quinta H.S.) grabbed her sixth double-double for the season, with 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting, going 1 for 5 from beyond three-point range, leading the team in steals with four and grabbing 13 total rebounds, 12 of which were defensive boards.

Freshman starting guard Mercades Young (Moreno Valley Vista Del Lago) had 9 points on 3 of 11 shooting, going 2 for 6 from beyond the arc and sophomore starting forward Jerrica Perez (Indio Shadow Hills) scored all 8 of her points in the first half, going 2 for 7 from three-point range and leading the team in assists with three.
