COD (7-6) got behind early in game one and clawed back to get close and then faced a four hit shutout in game two, as the Roadrunners dropped a double header to the Moorpark Raiders (9-7), 11-9 and 7-0.
In game one, the Raiders jumped all over freshman right handed starting pitcher Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) in the top of the first, batting around in the lineup and scoring five runs, before Robinson regained her composure, as a result, Desert found themselves immediately in a 5-0 hole.
In the bottom of the second, the Roadrunners scored three runs, to get to within a pair, 5-3. Sophomore short stop and leadoff hitter, Briana Alcorn (Indio H.S.) led the way for Desert as she went 4 for 5 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
Moorpark would add a run in the top of the third, but the Roadrunners would add a run of their own in the bottom of the third, to make the score 6-4. Freshman center fielder Carmina Camarena (Rancho Mirage H.S.) did well in the seven hole in the lineup, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Raiders would put the game almost out of reach in the top of the fourth as they plated four runs to make the score 10-4, but not to be out done, Alcorn would leg out an inside-the-park home run into right field, to keep the game close, 10-5.
Neither team would score in the fifth, but Moorpark would lead off the inning with a homer to left in the sixth, but the Roadrunners would explode for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Led by freshman catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.), who went 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI's, Desert would score twice before the first out and Avila was in the middle of all of it. The Roadrunners would load the bases with two outs, but the home batter struck out and Desert would score no more runs, ending the game, 11-9.
Game two was a tough one for the Roadrunners, as Moorpark scored a run in the top of the first, four runs in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth. All Desert could muster was four hits in their second shut out of 2019.
