After two Conference titles in three seasons, College of the Desert has elevated football head coach Jack Steptoe to a full time position. The Desert Community College District approved his hire on March 17th.
COD Football sophomore inside linebacker Brayden Bailey (St. George, UT Desert Hills) has signed a letter of intent with University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
COD Football sophomore wide receiver Myles Goulbourne (Waterbury (CT) Crosby) has signed a letter of intent with the Indiana State University.
College of the Desert Football sophomore defensive back Corey Dalton (Midlothian (IL) Bremen) and sophomore running back Anthony Ellison (Banning H.S.) were both named Region IV All-California First Team Offense by the JC Athletic Bureau and the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA).
Under third-year head coach Jack Steptoe, Desert finished the regular season with a record 6-5 overall and 4-1 in conference. As a reward for winning the American Division-Mountain Conference title and going to the Patriotic Bowl, Coach Steptoe was handed Coach of the Year honors.
COD Football freshman quarterback De'Abrie Smith (Palatka, FL) has been named an Honorable Mention Pacific Coast Athletic Conference’s (PCAC) Male Athlete of the Week for the week of November 21st.
COD (6-5) finished the year hosting the Patriotic Bowl and found themselves in a huge hole early, fighting their way back they took a 37-28 lead midway through the 3rd quarter, then the game went sideways, falling to the Monterey Park East Los Angeles Huskies (9-2), 63-37.
Desert will play host to the East Los Angeles Huskies in the Patriotic Bowl on Saturday, November 19, kick off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Boone Field and tickets are $12.
COD (6-4; 4-1) got into a heavyweight brawl to take a shot at their first bowl game since 2011, as each team traded scores, neither would relent, forcing the game into a crucial overtime period, where the home team would prevail over the Victorville Victor Valley Rams (6-4; 3-2), 48-41.
COD Football sophomore running back Anthony Ellison (Banning H.S.) has been named as the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference’s (PCAC) Male Athlete of the Week for the week of November 7th.
COD (5-4; 3-1) played their best game of the season at just the same time that the #18 team in the state decided to have their worst game of the season, as the Roadrunners stunned the previously unbeaten Chula Vista Southwestern Jaguars (8-1; 3-1), 51-34.
COD (4-4; 2-1) scored on their opening drive going on a 19-0 run, then the Roadrunners had to hold on for dear life, but they eventually knocked off the San Diego Mesa Olympians (2-6; 0-3), 32-21.
COD (3-4; 1-1) had a real chance to take another trophy away from an opponent, but over 190 yards in penalties and only 150 yards of total offense led to a road game let down, falling at the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (3-4; 2-0), 13-10.
COD Football freshman running back Kamone Best (Goldsboro (NC) Eastern Wayne) has been named as an honorable mention selection of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference’s (PCAC) Male Athlete of the Week for the week of October 17th.
COD (3-3; 1-0) began American Division-Mountain Conference play by scoring 28 unanswered points en route to dominating on both sides of the football, while retaining the Palms-To-Pines Trophy for another year, defeating the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (3-3; 0-1), 30-13.
Palm Desert - Roadrunners proved a lot of excitement for their fans at Boone Field Saturday night. Antelope Valley brought their 2-1 record and 5th ranking in the Southern California American Division to College of the Desert where Desert, 9th ranked in SC American Division, were waiting for them.
