COD Beach Volleyball opens 2023 on the road with split at OCC, sweep of Corsairs

COD (1-1) grabbed their first win of 2023, as the team would fall to host, the Orange Coast Pirates (1-0) 5-0 and sweeping the Santa Monica Corsairs (0-2) in the final contest of the day, 5-0.

Desert 3's team of freshman Jacqueline Leon (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Liana Whitley (Palm Desert H.S.) and the Roadrunners 4's team of freshman Ashlin Kretz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and freshman Paige Perez (Palm Desert H.S.) would fight hard against Orange Coast, taking both of those matches up to three sets.

In the match against Santa Monica, the 1's team of freshman Grace Abrams (Fountain Hills (AZ) H.S.) and sophomore Katie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) absolutely dominated in their return to the sand, blowing out the Corsairs, 21-2 and 21-11. The Roadrunners 2's team of freshman Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) and freshman Briana Delval (Indio H.S.) got back on track with a 21-13 and 21-14 win. And the Desert 3's team of Leon and Whitley had the most competitive match, but still won relatively easily, 21-16 and 21-17.

The next home matches for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be Friday, February 3rd beginning at 10 a.m., at the Civic Center Park, where they will host the Ventura Pirates and the Fullerton Hornets. Hope to see you there.
