COD Beach Volleyball Rolls to Doubleheader Sweep Over Rio Hondo and LA Harbor
The College of the Desert beach volleyball team extended its momentum with a pair of wins, sweeping Rio Hondo and Los Angeles Harbor to earn its fourth consecutive victory.
The College of the Desert beach volleyball team extended its momentum with a pair of wins, sweeping Rio Hondo and Los Angeles Harbor to earn its fourth consecutive victory. The Roadrunners edged Rio Hondo, 3-2, before handling LA Harbor, 4-1, improving to 10-9 overall on the season.
The victory over Rio Hondo marked a milestone moment for COD, snapping a four-match losing streak against the Roadrunners of Whittier and securing just the program's third all-time win in the series.
Match One: COD 3, Rio Hondo 2
COD claimed the top three courts to secure the dual victory.
At No. 1, the sophomore-freshman duo of Clairie Thomas (La Quinta HS) and Juliette Rothe (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) delivered a dominant performance, winning comfortably in straight sets, 21-13, 21-8.
The No. 2 pair of Jacqueline Leon (La Quinta HS) and Sophia Kalepp (Palm Desert HS) followed with a gritty effort, grinding out a straight-set win, 21-18, 21-17.
At No. 3, freshmen Sara Hanley (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) and Nadia Malone (La Quinta HS) controlled their match from start to finish, cruising to a decisive 21-11, 21-5 victory.
Rio Hondo picked up points at No. 4 and No. 5. Leslie Delgado (Coachella Valley HS) and Amber Kardol (Palm Desert HS) fell in competitive straight sets, 21-18, 21-16.
At No. 5, Addison Curtis (La Quinta HS) and Mia Castro (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) battled into a third set after dropping the opener 21-18 and responding with a 21-14 win, but ultimately fell in a tightly contested tiebreaker, 17-15.
Match Two: COD 4, LA Harbor 1
The Roadrunners carried their momentum into the second dual, winning four of five courts against LA Harbor.
Pairs Nos. 1 through 4 each secured straight-set victories to clinch the match early.
At No. 5, Alondra Moreno (Palm Springs HS) and Isabella Rosales (Shadow Hills HS) showed resilience after a slow start. The duo dropped the opening set, 21-18, but responded emphatically with a 21-6 win in the second before falling in the deciding set, 15-10.

COD continues its road trip on Friday, March 27, traveling to Torrance to face El Camino and conference-leading Long Beach City. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
