COD (23-15; 16-8) are on their way to the 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoffs after using a big 6th inning to grab their 4th straight playoff berth and win the season series over the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (11-28; 6-17), 12-5.
The win locks the Roadrunners into a second-place finish in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference standings. Since 1992, back when the San Bernardino Valley mascot was the Indians, the Roadrunners have a 46-60 overall record against San Bernardino Valley. Desert has a 26-28 record against the Wolverines in Palm Desert.
Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Caleb Ortiz (Indio Shadow Hills) took the mound for his 7th start of the season, tossing 6 complete, tying a season high with 7 strikeouts for his third win of the season. Freshman designated hitter Jayvin Baxa (La Quinta H.S.) grabbed his 7th game this season with 3+ hits, going 3 for 5 with a run scored and 2 runs batted in and sophomore left fielder Alekzander Bautista (La Quinta H.S.) clobbered his 4th home run of the season.
The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be Sophomore Day, as they host the El Camino Warriors of Torrance on Thursday, April 24 at 1p for the final regular season home game of the 2025 season. Since 1992, the Roadrunners have a 5-5-1 overall record against El Camino, but Desert has not defeated the Warriors since 2006. Desert has a 1-0 record against the Warriors in Palm Desert. While the Roadrunners have hosted El Camino numerous times as a part of the Tim Patterson / David Buttles Memorial Baseball Tournament, very rarely have these two met in a head-to-head, stand alone game. The most recent time that Desert hosted El Camino in a non tournament game was on February 15, 1995, the Roadrunners won that game 10-2. The last time the Roadrunners defeated El Camino was as a part of a San Diego area tournament hosted at several sites, their game was hosted at Southwestern on February 11, 2006, where Desert won 4-2.
