A native of Indio, California, and an alumnus of College of the Desert, Ricardo Amavizca joins the Roadrunners staff in his first season as an assistant coach, returning to his hometown program.
Amavizca graduated from Indio High School in 2019, where he was a four-year varsity letterwinner and served as team captain as a senior. That year, he earned Division V All-CIF recognition, Desert Valley League MVP, and Citrus Belt Area Player of the Year honors.
He began his collegiate career at Santa Barbara City College (2019–2022), playing his first full season in 2021–22 following COVID-19 disruptions. Amavizca transferred to College of the Desert for the 2022–23 season before concluding his playing career at New Mexico Highlands University (2023–25), where he transitioned to pitching and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.
In summer collegiate baseball, Amavizca pitched for the Port Angeles Lefties (West Coast League) in 2021 and became a key member of the Palm Springs Power staff in 2022, 2024, and 2025. He helped the Power capture consecutive California Premier Collegiate League (CPCL) championships in 2024 and 2025, earning Championship MVP honors both years—closing out both title games in 2024 and delivering a dominant six-inning relief outing in the 2025 clincher.
