The Roadrunners (1-0) opened the 2025 season in dominant fashion, powering past the Los Angeles Pierce Brahmas (0-1) in Woodland Hills, 56-27. The Desert offensive line paved the way for more than 370 rushing yards without allowing a sack, as the Roadrunners secured their largest-ever margin of victory on the road against the Brahmas.
The 29-point win topped the Roadrunners previous best in Woodland Hills, a 22-point victory (50-28) in 2023. It also marked the program's largest win over Pierce since 2001, when Desert earned a 59-point blowout (72-13) at home.
Freshman running back Aaron Ramirez (Coachella Valley H.S.) led the ground attack with 116 yards on just 10 carries and three touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Noah Vaughn-Israel (Palos Heights (IL) Alan B. Shepard) proved dangerous both ways, throwing for 99 yards on 5-of-11 passing while adding 97 rushing yards and two scores on 11 carries. Risk also contributed on special teams, drilling a 22-yard field goal and hitting 5-of-7 extra point attempts.
Defensively, freshman linebacker Donte Winfrey (Rancho Mirage H.S.) set the tone with 10 tackles (8 solo), while sophomore linebacker Jalen Jones (Brentwood Academy, TN) added eight tackles (5 solo). Sophomore cornerback Jayden Woods (Redlands H.S.) had a standout performance in the secondary, snagging a 22-yard interception in the second quarter, breaking up a pass, and blocking a Brahmas field goal attempt in the third.
The Roadrunners now turn their focus to their home opener on Saturday, September 6 at 7 p.m. against the Glendale Vaqueros at Cathedral City High School. All of COD's home games in 2025 will be played at Cathedral City while the new on-campus stadium in Palm Desert is under construction.
