The College of the Desert Football team (3-4, 2-0) remained unbeaten in conference play with a commanding 64-6 victory over winless Compton (0-7, 0-2), marking the Roadrunners' most lopsided win since 2018.
It's been a long drought for the Coyotes at Raymond "Tay" Brown Stadium, with their last victory came on October 1, 2022, a 37-7 win at L.A. Pierce. Since then, Compton, formerly known as the Tartars, has dropped 22 straight games. Saturday's matchup continued COD's dominance in the series, as the Roadrunners improved to 7-0 all-time against Compton, including a perfect 4-0 record on the road.
Freshman quarterback Noah Vaughn-Israel (Palos Heights [IL] Alan B. Shepard) turned in his most efficient outing of the season. He accounted for three rushing touchdowns, completing 11-of-16 passes for 126 yards while adding 90 yards on 10 carries. Vaughn-Israel's biggest highlight came late in the game, breaking loose for a 73-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes remaining to seal the win.
Sophomore quarterback Oshea Wallace (Cathedral City H.S.) also shined in one of his most complete performances of the year. Wallace threw for a season-high 217 yards, completing 10 of 20 passes, including a 74-yard touchdown strike early in the second quarter. He was equally effective on the ground, rushing for 66 yards on just six carries, highlighted by a 33-yard scamper to start a late-second-quarter drive. His dual-threat play was instrumental in keeping COD's conference record unblemished.
Freshman wide receiver Kelby Real Bird (Chandler [AZ] Basha) delivered a breakout performance for the Roadrunners' receiving corps, catching four passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns. His 74-yard score was one of the game's biggest highlights and marked the second-highest single-game receiving total by a COD player this season.
On defense and special teams, freshman Seandamon Moore (Moreno Valley H.S.) was everywhere. Moore tallied a season-high 12 tackles (six assisted) and delivered one of the game's pivotal moments with the Roadrunners' first kickoff return touchdown of the season. His score came immediately after Compton's lone touchdown, snuffing out any chance of a rally and shifting momentum back to COD for good.
Freshman kicker Ryland Risk (Palm Desert H.S.) showed off his versatility in the win, accounting for 10 points, connecting on a 20-yard field goal and converting seven of nine extra points, both season bests. Risk also contributed offensively with 62 receiving yards on four catches, including a 54-yard reception that set up COD's first score of the afternoon. On special teams, he added 11 kickoffs for 508 yards, both personal season highs.
The Roadrunners now turn their attention to Homecoming, where they'll host longtime rivals Victor Valley College in the 62nd Annual Homecoming Game on Saturday, October 25, at 7 p.m. at Cathedral City High School.
