COD Men’s Golf Secures SoCal Title; Montgomery Earns All-SoCal Honors
The College of the Desert men’s golf team continued its impressive postseason run, capturing the Southern California Regional Championship by one stroke in a dramatic final round.
The College of the Desert men's golf team continued its impressive postseason run, capturing the Southern California Regional Championship by one stroke in a dramatic final round. With the victory, the Roadrunners secured a berth in the 3C2A State Championship, set for May 10–11 in La Quinta.
Competing in their final regional event of the season, COD sent six golfers to the SoCal Regional Finals at Olivas Links Golf Club in Ventura. The single-day, 36-hole tournament featured top competition from across the region. The Roadrunners led after the opening round and placed second in the final round, finishing with a team score of 587—one stroke ahead of College of the Canyons. When all regional results were combined, COD claimed the overall SoCal title.
Top Performers Lead the Charge
Sophomore Mason Montgomery (Palm Desert HS) once again led the way for COD, shooting a 1-under 71 in round one and a 3-over 75 in round two for a total of 146. He finished fifth individually and earned All-SoCal honors.
Freshman Braxten Ziegenbusch (Henry Harriman HS, UT), competing in just his second event of the season, posted a career-best performance. He fired a 1-under 71 in round one and followed with a 4-over 76 to finish at 147, tying for sixth overall.
Sophomore Sinjin Armstrong (La Quinta HS) delivered a consistent performance, carding back-to-back rounds of 3-over 74 to finish at 148, tying for ninth.
Sophomore Braxton McDonald (Kalamalka Secondary, BC) opened with a 5-over 77 before rebounding with an even-par 72 in round two—matching one of his top rounds of the season—to finish at 149, tied for 12th.
Sophomore Linus Rindestad Utter (Fredrika Bremer Gymnasiet, SWE) recorded rounds of 74 and 78 to finish at 152, tying for 19th.
Sophomore Logan Marra (Palm Desert HS) rounded out the scoring for the Roadrunners with rounds of 78 and 76, finishing at 154 and tied for 27th.
