2020 COD Softball News
Three College of the Desert Softball players, sophomore right fielder Giselle Maldonado (Rancho Mirage H.S.), sophomore right handed starting pitcher Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) and sophomore left fielder Nalacia Nelson (Beaumont H.S.), were recently named to the 2020 3CFCA Academic All-State Team.
COD (18-7) had a huge outburst of five runs in the bottom of the sixth to come from behind and snag the Southwestern Jaguars of Chula Vista (12-8), 8-6.
COD (17-7; 5-1) scored three runs in the third and five runs in the sixth as the Roadrunners grabbed their fifth Conference win of 2020, pushing past the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles of Menifee (1-11; 1-5), 8-1.
COD (16-7; 4-1) built a sizable lead early, then the visitors started to chip away at that lead, grabbing two in the 5th and three in the 6th, as round one of the “Battle of the IEAC” goes to the Barstow Vikings (12-3; 5-0), 5-3.
COD (16-6) split a double header, falling short in the first game 4-3 and then winning the back half of the series, 4-2 over the Saddleback Gauchos of Mission Viejo (11-6).
COD (13-2; 3-0) appear to be hitting their stride as good pitching, good defensive plays and timely hitting proved to be the recipe for success, rolling past the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (3-10; 0-1), 5-1.
COD (5-1) off to their best start since 2014, hosted their visitors to a double header shut out, as the Roadrunner used a big third inning in both games to cruise to easy wins over the Compton Tartars (0-5), 18-0 and 18-0.
COD (3-1) played a close contest early with the visitors, then sent 16 players to the plate in the 4th inning to mercy the Imperial Valley Arabs (1-1), 14-3.
COD (1-1) grabbed their first win of the early 2020 season, by skewering the San Diego City Knights (0-1) in five innings, 19-0.
