COD (21-14; 7-8) threw a wrench in the Conference playoff race by grabbing a win in the back half of a doubleheader, knocking off the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (22-17; 10-4), 5-1.
The Roadrunners wrapped up the 2025 season with emotion and pride, honoring the life and legacy of former coach Garrett Estrin and recognizing the contributions of their seven graduating sophomores in a heartfelt pregame ceremony.
In game one, Chaffey jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. While the Roadrunners plated two runs in the third inning, it wasn't enough to avoid the mercy rule, falling 12-2. Sophomore second baseman Kimberly Rodriguez (Indio H.S.) was a bright spot in the lineup, going 2-for-2 out of the 7-hole.
Game two told a much different story. Desert came out swinging, scoring all five of their runs in the first two innings to seize the early momentum. Behind a dominant pitching duo, the Roadrunners held firm the rest of the way. Sophomore left-handed starter Cadence Krisell (Blythe Palo Verde Valley) was sharp, tossing five strong innings with four strikeouts and keeping Chaffey hitters off balance. Sophomore right-handed reliever Victoria Talamantes (La Quinta H.S.) slammed the door with two shutout innings, striking out five of the eight batters she faced in an electric performance.
Rodriguez, bumped to the lead-off spot for the second game, did not disappoint — going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and helping set the tone offensively.
Sophomore center fielder Arissa Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had a steady day, going 1-for-2 in both contests. In game two, sophomore right fielder Rebecca Perez (Palm Springs H.S.) delivered in a big way, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and 3 RBIs from the 2-hole. Sophomore catcher Jaylene Ramos (Yucca Valley H.S.) chipped in with a 1-for-3 performance, and sophomore left fielder Andrea Ramirez (Palm Springs H.S.) contributed solid defense and energy throughout the day.
With the win, the Roadrunners closed the book on the 2025 campaign with a statement victory, sending their sophomores off in style.
