COD Softball cruises past Barstow, 19-0
The College of the Desert softball team erupted early and never looked back, scoring 10 runs in the first inning and nine more in the second to secure a 19-0 mercy-rule victory over Barstow.
The College of the Desert softball team erupted early and never looked back, scoring 10 runs in the first inning and nine more in the second to secure a 19-0 mercy-rule victory over Barstow.
With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 10-15 overall and 4-8 in conference play, while the Vikings fall to 0-26 (0-12 - IEAC). COD also completes the three-game season sweep over Barstow by a combined score of 52-6.
Despite the lopsided series, Barstow is fielding a program for the first time in four seasons. Prior to COD's current three-game winning streak in the series, the Vikings had won five straight matchups dating back to 2019.
Sophomore right-hander Alyssa Martinez Sanchez (La Quinta H.S.) delivered a dominant performance in the circle, earning her sixth win of the season with a five-inning complete-game shutout. She struck out six and faced the minimum of 18 batters. At the plate, Sanchez also contributed, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs, two extra-base hits, and two runs scored for her 11th multi-hit game of the season.
Danika Cisneros (California Connections Academy - Bermuda Dunes) reached base three times out of the No. 2 spot, going 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Nevaeh Walls (Shadow Hills H.S. - Indio) stayed perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs for her second three-hit game of the season.
Jenna Bell (La Quinta H.S.) added another strong showing in the cleanup spot, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs scored, marking her third game this season with three or more hits.
Isabel Inzunza (Coachella Valley H.S. - Thermal) reached base in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two walks and scoring three runs.
Samantha Beltran (Shadow Hills H.S. - Indio) went 2-for-3 and scored three runs, while Amariz Rodriguez (Shadow Hills H.S. - Indio) capped the offensive surge with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in two runs and scoring twice.
The Roadrunners will close out the 2026 regular season at home, beginning with a doubleheader against Victor Valley on Friday, April 17 at 12 p.m. COD will then host Mt. San Jacinto on April 22 at 6 p.m. for Sophomore Night.
