Preist, Perez Lead Women's Basketball to 82-72 Win Over Hartnell
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Freshmen Ashley Preist (Yucca Valley, CA/Yucca Valley HS) and Jerrica Perez (Indio, CA/Shadow Hills HS) each eclipsed the 20-point mark in leading College of the Desert (6-5) to an 82-72 victory over Hartnell (2-4) at the 32nd Annual Phillips 66 Invitational in San Luis Obispo.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Freshmen Ashley Preist (Yucca Valley, CA/Yucca Valley HS) and Jerrica Perez (Indio, CA/Shadow Hills HS) each eclipsed the 20-point mark in leading College of the Desert (6-5) to an 82-72 victory over Hartnell (2-4) at the 32nd Annual Phillips 66 Invitational in San Luis Obispo.
Preist scored 24 points off the bench for the Lady Roadrunners, knocking down 12 of 15 (80 percent) shots while collecting nine rebounds. Perez shot 9-12 (75 percent) from the field to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Freshman guard Kelcey Beckham (Indio, CA/Indio HS) scored 12 points and added two steals, assists and rebounds, while freshman forward Chelsea Reese (Roswell, GA/Centenial HS) also notched in the double-figures with 10 points.
As a team, COD shot 53.2 percent (33-62) from the field, including a 41.2 percent (7-17) mark from behind the three-point line. They collected 30 rebounds, and dished out 13 assists.
College of the Desert advances to take on the tournament host, Cuesta, later this evening. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
