Emily has been coaching in the Coachella Valley for 3 years. She serves as an assistant to the women’s programs at College of the Desert and Shadow Hills High School. In the summer she works under coach Ryan Towner and Greg Ramirez as a coach for Desert Storm, the longest and most prestigious, travel basketball team in the valley. She is very active in the community doing personal training and team training with both boys and girls of all ages.

Coach Underwood was born in Lexington, Kentucky and raised in the city of Nicholasville. Coach Underwood graduated from East Jessamine High School where she played both basketball and softball. Coach Underwood was a 4 year letterman in both sports, earning All-District, All-Region and All State honorable mention. She holds the 4th spot on the all-time scoring list at her high school. She is one of the only people to score 1,000 points in both middle and high school. She was the first and only female to play in the Kentucky-Ohio All-Star game and has her jersey hung in the gymnasium.

After graduating she moved to Palm Desert, California where she attended College of the Desert. Emily played both softball and basketball for COD earning second team all-conference awards and played in the sophomore all-star game. After completing her time at COD she transferred to Whittier College where she finished her basketball career under Coach Roy Dow.
