The College of the Desert Women's Golf team teed off the 2025 season by hosting the 3rd Annual Desert Invitational at The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert. Facing both a talented field and tough late-summer conditions, the Roadrunners earned a 6th place team finish, highlighted by freshman Daisy Castro's (La Quinta H.S.) impressive 19th place individual performance.
The two-day tournament brought in elite competition, including four of the six teams from last year's CCCAA State Championship, among them the defending State Champions. COD fielded four golfers in the season opener and gained valuable early-season experience against some of the state's top programs.
Castro led the way for the Roadrunners, carding a 96 on day one before bouncing back with an 88 on day two for a total of 184. Her strong finish placed her 19th overall in a crowded field. Freshman Jiiana Cordova (Rancho Mirage H.S.) followed with rounds of 99 and 102 (201), good for 26th place. Sophomore returner Myah Urquidez (Banning H.S.) posted a two-day total of 237 (34th), while freshman Jenitza Perez (La Quinta H.S.) closed with a 277 (35th).
Despite the challenge of 100-degree heat and high humidity, the Roadrunners stayed resilient and improved their team score by five strokes from day one to day two, finishing at 899 overall. The Reedley Tigers captured the team title with a score of 655.
With their season-opening test in the books, the Roadrunners now turn their focus to building momentum as the 2025 campaign unfolds.
The next event for the Roadrunners is at the El Prado Golf Course - Butterfield Course in Chino for the Mt. San Antonio Invitational on Wednesday, September 3rd at 10 a.m.
