COD Women’s Soccer: Salazar signs letter with Providence Christian

COD Women's Soccer defender Montserrath Salazar (Indio H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with Providence Christian College.

Salazar, from Indio H.S., start 12 of 17 games she played in for the Roadrunners in 2023, holding down the back line that helped lockdown opposing offenses and led to six clean sheets. During her freshman campaign, Salazar started in 11 of 20 games for Desert and was one of the key reasons the Roadrunners secured five shutouts while she was on the field during the 2022 season.

"My time here at COD has been one for the books." Salazar continued, "I can't tell you how grateful I am to have this opportunity to go and play at the next level. I'm just honestly glad that I am leaving this program to the hands of Coach Ramon and I know for a fact that he will thrive in this program."

Later, Salazar explained why she chose Providence Christian College, "because the experience I had with the coaches and the players with the scrimmage we had against them was really fun. And just as well as me improving as a student athlete would be such a good challenge for me at the next level."

Providence Christian College is located in Pasadena, which is about 120 miles west of College of the Desert. The Providence Christian Sea Beggars play at Villa Community Parke and the team is coached by Todd Elkins in his 2nd season with the Sea Beggars. In the 2023 season, the Sea Beggars concluded the year with a 1-11-1 overall record, with a 0-10-1 record in Conference play, finishing the season in 12th place. Providence Christian is in the California Pacific Conference of NAIA.
