COD Women’s Volleyball sweeps the Comets for the first time in program history, 3-0

COD (13-1; 1-0) have knocked over some huge milestones in 2018, but opening Conference play and sweeping the Palomar Comets of San Marcos (2-10; 0-1) for the first time in program history could be one of the biggest accomplishments so far, winning 3-0.

Sophomore setter Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 32 assists, tied for the team lead with 13 digs and had 6 kills and sophomore outside hitter Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces, led the team with a solo block and had 5 kills.

Your Roadrunners first faced off with Palomar in 1991 and have a 2-9 all-time record against the Comets, including a 2-5 record at home. The last time Desert defeated Palomar was at home in 2017, 3-2 (13-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 15-12).

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces, had 5 kills and had 8 digs and freshman opposite Kendal Campbell (White Rock, BC Semiahmoo Secondary) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces and had 8 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Mckenzie Bartlett (Redmond, OR Ridgeview) led the team with 10 kills and sophomore middle blocker Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) had 9 kills.

The next game for COD is at former Foothill Conference foe, the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (11-2), on Friday, October 5. The Roadrunners knocked off MSJC in 2017 in Palm Desert, but they last won in San Jacinto in 2012, where the Desert won 3-1. The Roadrunners have a 39-17 record all-time against Mt. San Jacinto and an 18-9 record on the road against the Eagles, the match starts at 5 p.m.
