COD Women’s Volleyball stuns #12 Spartans for first time since 1984, 3-2

COD (19-4; 7-3) wrapped up PCAC-North play with a memorable win on the road, knocking off the #12 team in the state, the MiraCosta Spartans of Oceanside (19-3; 9-1) in five-sets, 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 7-25, 15-11).

Sophomore setter Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 43 assists, tied for the team lead with 2 assist blocks and had 15 digs and sophomore libero Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) led the team with 23 digs.

With the win, the Roadrunners have officially finished in third place in Division play. The win over the Spartans also snaps a 32-win Conference match streak for MiraCosta stretching back to the 2015 season. And you're seeing that score line correctly, Desert lost the 4th set 25-7 and still found the ability to gab the victory.

Sophomore outside hitter Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 14 kills and had 14 digs and sophomore middle blocker Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 2 solo blocks, had 12 kills and had 2 assist blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) had 10 digs and 7 kills and sophomore defensive specialist Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.) led the team with 3 service aces.

Sophomore middle blocker Mckenzie Bartlett (Redmond, OR Ridgeview) had 9 kills in the win.

The next home game for Desert is Wednesday, when they host the Imperial Valley Arabs on November 7th at 5:30 p.m. in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference crossover match. The Roadrunners have played Imperial Valley twice this season so far, sweeping them both times.
