COD Women’s Volleyball Defeats Canyons for First Time in Program History, 3–1
The College of the Desert women’s volleyball team (8–3) recorded one of its biggest victories of the season, earning a historic 3–1 road win over perennial playoff contender College of the Canyons (2–6) in Santa Clarita. Set scores were 25–18, 23–25, 25–21, 25–22.

The two programs have met just five times since 1976, and with this result, COD secured its first-ever win over the Cougars, improving to 1–2 all-time in Santa Clarita and 1–4 overall in the series.
Freshman outside hitter Leslie Delgado (Thermal Coachella Valley) set season highs with three service aces and 16 digs, while also adding seven kills. Freshman setter Juliette Rothe (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) had a standout night, posting a season-high two solo blocks, leading the team with 29 assists, and contributing four service aces and 12 digs.
At the net, sophomore middle blocker Madyson Duran (Rancho Mirage H.S.) tied her season high with six block assists, while freshman middle blocker Jackie Leon (La Quinta H.S.) posted a season-best two block assists and matched her season high with four kills. Freshman right side Sara Hanley (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) added four block assists, and freshman right side Faiyth Robinson (Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian Academy) chipped in with nine digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Clairie Thomas (La Quinta H.S.) continued to power the Roadrunners' offense, leading the way with 17 kills, along with 14 digs and three block assists. Freshman libero Meriah Escobedo (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) was strong defensively with 15 digs and tied her season high with three service aces. Freshman outside hitter Amber Kardol (Palm Desert H.S.) also made an impact from the service line, finishing with three aces and seven digs.
The Roadrunners continue their 23-day road swing at the Jets Tri in San Diego Miramar on Friday, September 12, before returning home on Friday, September 26 at 5 p.m. to host the El Camino Warriors (3–6) of Torrance in the first-ever meeting, in Palm Desert, between the two programs.
