College of the Desert (17-4; 6-0) continued its dominant run through the Inland Empire Athletic Conference, earning its 11th sweep of the season and 9th straight win with a 3–0 victory over the Cerro Coso Coyotes (9-11; 2-4) of Ridgecrest (25-18, 25-22, 25-15) remaining perfect in conference play.
COD and Cerro Coso first met in 1977, with the Roadrunners now holding a strong 35-5 all-time edge in the series, including an 18-3 mark in Palm Desert. And while this Coyotes squad ranks among their most competitive in recent years, COD has now defeated Cerro Coso in 23 straight meetings. Much like the classic cartoons, the Roadrunners continue to stay one step ahead of the Coyotes.
Sophomore outside hitter Clairie Thomas (La Quinta H.S.) stuffed the stat sheet with 14 kills, a season-high 2 solo blocks, 2 aces, 1 block assist, and 16 digs. Freshman libero Isabella Rosales (Shadow Hills H.S.) tied a season high with 2 aces and added 8 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Leslie Delgado (Coachella Valley H.S.) posted her sixth double-digit kill performance of the season and grabbed 7 digs. Freshman setter Juliette Rothe (Xavier College Prep) tallied her 11th match with 31+ assists, adding 2 aces and 11 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Madyson Duran (Rancho Mirage H.S.) chipped in 4 kills and 2 block assists, while freshman defensive specialist Amber Kardol (Palm Desert H.S.) delivered 2 aces. Freshman right side Faiyth Robinson (Desert Christian Academy) recorded 6 digs and freshman right side Sara Hanley (Xavier College Prep) added 3 kills.
COD returns home for a rare mid-season non-conference matchup on Saturday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m., hosting the Glendale Vaqueros (2-17) at Palm Desert.
