Palomar would score goals in the 13th, 38th and 44th minutes to take a 3-0 lead going into halftime. The Comets would add another goal in the 53rd minute, before sophomore forward Melita Pena (La Quinta H.S.) took a deflection off of the Palomar keeper and pounded a shot into the back of the net in the 59th minute to finally get the Roadrunners on the board.
Sophomore starting goal keeper Maranda Palmer (Twentynine Palms H.S.) struggled in net, facing eight shots and making five saves, and was pulled at halftime. Freshman goal keeper Maira Fuentes (Thermal Desert Mirage) took over in the second half and made three saves, allowing a Palomar goal eight minutes into the second half, but with the assistance of the defense in front of her, Fuentes managed to shut down the Comets for the rest of the half.
