COD (6-2; 5-1) took a close win against the San Diego City Knights (5-8; 5-3) gaining sole possession of 2nd place of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
In Doubles play for Desert, the team of sophomore Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Karla Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) collapsed the knights, 8-5. In the second doubles victory for the Roadrunners, the team of sophomore Annaya Zubick (Palm Springs H.S.) and sophomore Andrea Rapan (Thermal Coachella Valley) battled in a tough match but took the win, 8-6.
In singles play, Stepien easily knocked off her opponent in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0, adding to her undefeated record now standing at 8-0. San Diego City would take the next two matches as Desert would see Munoz take her opponent to an extra set, but fell 6-4, 2-6, and 4-6. Rapan picked up the momentum for the Roadrunners as she won 6-3 and 6-1. Burns would continue the effort as she dismantled the Knights chances at the team win, subduing her opponent in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be on the road at Palomar, on March 26th, where they will continue Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) by playing a doubleheader against the Palomar Comets at 10am and the Southwestern Jaguars at 2p.
